Biography

Biography

Antwan C. Williams is a retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel with more than 30 years of experience leading public affairs, marketing, public relations, communication and human resources organizations in the Department of Defense and at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

He served as the West Point Director of Marketing and Public Relations for admissions and recruiting and later served as the Deputy Director for Public Affairs and Communication at the military academy.

He was the Academic Department Chair/Senior Instructor for the Defense Information School’s Public Affairs Leadership Department leading a full-time faculty of more than 20 instructors. His department was responsible for teaching more than 800 students a year in journalism, public relations, media relations, community relations, multimedia publishing, public affairs, marketing, government, national policy, national security, social policy, broadcasting and strategic communication.

Antwan also served as a public affairs officer in the Office of the Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon. Later, he was the Chief of Public Affairs for Lt. General Timothy J. Maude, the highest-ranking general in the U.S. Army responsible for human resources, recruiting and personnel management. General Maude, along with 28 of Antwan’s coworkers died on 9/11 in the Pentagon.

Antwan worked as an Army communication associate for a member of Congress and later served as the Inspector General for the U.S. Army Human Resources Command. He has also led public affairs and media relations operations for the U.S. Army in Washington, D.C., San Antonio, Texas and during humanitarian operations in Honduras, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.

Antwan has been teaching college students and adult learners since 2002. In addition to teaching at the Defense Information School, he has taught undergraduate courses at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York (near West Point) and Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Texas.

Prior to arriving at UTA, he was the Director of Public Affairs and the Spokesperson for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service in Dallas, Texas. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Southern University, a master’s degree in international relations from Troy University and a juris doctor degree from George Washington University Law School. He also has an additional 32 hours of graduate studies in public relations planning, journalism, strategic communication, public affairs, public policy, government, non-profit management and marketing.
