Teaching Interests

Teaching Interests
As a firm believer that “teaching is more than imparting knowledge, it is inspiring change”, I view teaching as the most important mission to educators who can turn a rock into a diamond every day. This is particularly relevant to the students at UTA where many of them are first-generation college students with great potentials. As a researcher working on the topic of long-run economic growth, I am also well aware of the importance of education in determining the quality of human capital as a driving factor behind the future well-being of community as well as individuals. Moreover, as a former central banker who considers teaching as privilege rather than a routine duty in academia, I am always excited when I see my students growing into more knowledgeable citizens with critical thinking who can apply what they learned from class to address issues in the real world.

Biography

Biography

C.Y. Choi joined UTA in July 2006 after teaching at University of New Hampshire for five years as assistant professor. He received his Ph.D. in 2000 from the Ohio State University, focusing his studies in the areas of open economy macroeconomics and time series econometrics. Prior to moving to Ohio, he worked for several years at the Bank of Korea (the central bank of South Korea) as economist in the Research Department. His research focuses on applying econometric techniques to address issues in open economy macroeconomics, monetary economics, and regional economic growth. He is currently interested in the dynamic behavior of relative prices and its implications on monetary policy.

The degree of price difference on goods and services among Texas metropolitan areas has increased over time, researchers wrote in a paper featured on the Dallas Fed Economic Letter, according to a paper co-authored by a UT Arlington associate professor in the College of Business. The study also showed that price varied among different goods and services among eight metropolitan cities surveyed. Finally, it showed Dallas was the most expensive city in the state. C.Y.
