Biography

Biography

Born in Manhattan, Douglas Klahr was educated in the United States and Germany. As an architectural historian, his research has two principal strands: architecture of the German Empire (1871-1918) and architectural photography of European cities from 1900 through the Third Reich, with a focus upon stereoscopic photography. Recipient of a Fulbright-DAAD Fellowship in Berlin, his research has been published in the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, Oxford Art Journal, German History, the Zeitschrift für Kunstgeschichte, as well as the peer-reviewed online journals Architectural Histories, Archimaera, Kunsttexte.de and Z Arch Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies in Architecture and Urbanism.

Book chapters have been published by Routledge, Ashgate, Boomsbury, Leuven University Press, Columbia University/Jagiellonian University Press,and Éditions Recherche. He has delivered papers at conferences in London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Lisbon, Helsinki, Krakow, Glasgow, Washington, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Philadelphia, and other cities as well. Book chapters are forthcoming in the Harrassowitz Verlag and Berghahn Books.

On June 1, 2016 he became Associate Dean of the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs.

      Texas Academic Leadership Academy
      The Texas Academic Leadership Academy is sponsored by the Texas Association of Chief Academic Officers (TACAO) and facilitated and coordinated by Sam Houston State University’s College of Education. A primary goal of the academy is to prepare leaders who can support the state’s 60X30TX strategic plan. TALA fellows are current faculty or administrators from Texas state universities who are aspiring to be leaders in academic affairs. As a former TALA fellow and now a TALA coach, I meet with six current TALA fellows several times each semester as a group to , ask reflective questions on progress of their professional goals, encourage discussion and idea sharing among group members, and provide advice and resource ideas.
