Research and Expertise

  • Summary of Experience
    Dr. Dancila conducts analytical, computational, and experimental research with a concentration in the areas of composite and smart materials and structures, tailoring of failure and deformation modes, ultra high temperature mechanical testing, wind energy, inflatable space structures, space tethers, fatigue and fracture, active material modulated flow control, rotorcraft, and manned/UAV airship technology. His experience includes eight years as full time aerospace engineering faculty as well as ten years in the industry, including eight years of engineering research entrepreneurship as founder and manager of two small businesses focused on innovative engineering solutions in the areas of inflatable structures and airship technology from concept to modeling, design and testing, and practical implementation. Dr. Dancila has taught courses at both the undergraduate and the graduate level, and has advised undergraduate and graduate students, leading to the awarding of three Ph.D. and nine M.S. degrees. He has authored fourteen refereed and over forty conference publications, and has been awarded three U.S patents. Dr. Dancila has experience as a private pilot with glider and FAA Single Engine Land ratings.
