Biography

Erica Hinojosa is currently the Simulation Technology Manager at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) College of Nursing and Health Innovation (CONHI) Smart Hospital Facilities ™. Prior to becoming the Simulation Technology Manager, she worked as a Simulation Technician at UTA CONHI Smart Hospital Facilities ™ for two and a half years. She graduated from UTA with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Master of Science in Healthcare Simulation. Her background allows her to understand the medical and educational aspects of the simulation healthcare industry. In December of 2018, she became a Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH).

Erica has worked on projects in the past that have been presented at INACSL, SimGHOSTS, IMSH, Medical City Dallas, and Arlington Independent School District Career and Technical Center. The titles of a few projects are as followed Competency-Focused Approach to Clinical Experience, Moulage on a Dime, Opportunities for Collaboration Between Academia and Practice, and Lessons on How to Use and Incorporate an Anatomage Table into High School Programs.

Erica is currently a member of Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), Gathering of Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialist (SimGHOST), Simulation Professionals of Texas (SPOT), and Simulation User Network (SUN). Erica has active roles on SimGHOST by being a Mentor and Ambassador as well as on SPOT as the Oversight Planning and Communication liaison.

      Develop internship at Smart Hospital with Biomedical Engineers to establish opportunities for both the simulation center and engineering students. Recruit interns to participate in internship each semester; work with faculty, advisors, and organization leaders. Create internship guide, orientation, and on-boarding instructions for the internship program. Mentor interns and provide training/support to meet end of semester objectives. Evaluate the interns each semester and allow interns to evaluate Smart Hospital on ways to improve. Develop weekly and semester assignments. Maintain communication with interns by meeting weekly and be readily available

      Oversee Simulation Technician’s duties and responsibilities Mentor Simulation Technicians and provide training/support, education, and research activities. Recruit, hire, and train Simulation Technicians. Ensure simulation equipment and other technology are up-to-date and well maintained. Delegate and supervise maintenance duties to the Simulation Technicians. Assist the Assistant Dean of Simulation and Technology to develop policy and procedures in relation to the safe, effective, and efficient use of simulation technology. Provide recommendations for the budget and purchase of equipment, supplies, and other technology resources.
      Collaborate with other Simulation Managers to provide effective facilitation of activities that will be conducted between Simulation Facilitators and Simulation Technicians. Ensure appropriate level of technology is assigned to simulation education and research activities. Maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment by reviewing journals, catalogs, operating manuals, attending meetings, trainings, and conferences.
