Biography

Biography

John Adams is an Associate Professor of Finance at The University of Texas at Arlington. He has a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University and earned his Ph.D. in finance from Texas Tech University. His research falls into two main areas, investment management and research methods. He has published in Critical Finance Review, Financial Management, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Research, and the Review of Financial Studies. His research has been featured numerous times in the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, Barron’s, and several investment trade journals. He teaches a doctoral seminar in investments and undergraduate business finance. John is active in several organizations including the Financial Management, Southern Finance, and Southwestern Finance Associations. John has also served as a director and vice president for the Southwestern Finance Association.

One possibility: "The people managing your money may sometimes be managing it more to benefit themselves than to benefit you," said Adams, one of the study's authors.

      Securities lending returns are “dramatically lower” when funds use lending agents affiliated with their sponsors, according to a new report co-authored by John Adams, assistant professor of finance at UT Arlington, Global Investor reported. An affiliated agent is where the investment company that manages the fund is under the same umbrella as that fund’s lending agent. Here, returns tend to be smaller and there are conflicts of interests, Adams and his co-authors wrote.
