about me

Research Interests

Research Interests
My research interests have always focused on patient safety for older adults. Several themes are consistent throughout my endeavors: how can technology streamline and simplify the lives of older adults so that they are able to remain independent on their own terms as long as possible. What are the challenges and barriers that can be overcome through technology that currently prevent older adults from living to their fullest potentials with their families and communities? When is technology an acceptable substitute for human interaction and what are the limits?

Teaching Interests

Teaching Interests
Teaching is the means by which I have the opportunity to touch the lives older adults through future nurses who will be caring for them in their communities. By instilling a passion for older adults, excellence in care based on evidence, and a passion for lifelong learning in students, I can contribute to the best possible health outcomes for older adults both today and in the future.

IEEE PerCom International Workshop on Pervasive Health Technologies (PerHealth 2021)
The IEEE PerCom International Workshop on Pervasive Health Technologies (PerHealth 2021) is a cross-disciplinary workshop that brings researchers from engineering, computer science, and medicine together to discuss the latest findings in this area and advance the field. Pervasive health research spans a broad spectrum and health-focused technologies ranging from mobile health and health information technology to medical devices, telemedicine, and personalized healthcare. The interactive workshop will be inspiring for anyone conducting research in the area of pervasive health and related fields. This includes research in technology design and development as well as clinical studies and novel application areas. The aim is to provide a forum where hardware, software, and middleware technologies, as well as data privacy and security issues, are discussed that relate to aging in place, geriatrics, chronic disease management, health management, or that could help people with disabilities. The 2021 workshop will further expand its reach into AI technologies, smart health communities, and Dementia and Cognitive decline. Moreover, it will seek work in data security and privacy as well as fairness and bias in pervasive health care.

The main responsibilities of the TPC include reviewing papers and assisting in the selection of the final papers. We will do our best to limit the number of reviews to a maximum of 3 per TPC member. We are also hoping that you can assist in disseminating the call-for-paper and submit papers to the workshop.
