Biography

Biography

Mike has spent the majority of his career as a clinical social worker at a community-based hospice in Windsor, Ontario, Canada providing hospice palliative care.

Mike has become a regional leader in palliative care education, and has been invited to speak at several conferences locally, regionally, provincially, and internationally. In April 2016, Mike proudly accepted Cancer Care Ontario’s Human Touch Award for his exemplary clinical practice in palliative care. In January 2018, he was appointed to Cancer Care Ontario’s Board of Directors and has also served as a palliative care consultant for the Ontario Association of Social Workers and the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario. In March 2018, he was awarded a Top 40 Under 40 Award by Leadership Windsor-Essex for his work in co-founding Oneday Dreams, a national charity that fulfills dreams for Canadians in their last year of life. In 2019, he received the Ontario Association of Social Workers' Inspirational Leader Award. Mike is completing his PhD at the University of Windsor and has experience in program evaluation in public health, facilitating interviews and focus groups to collect qualitative data, and transcribing and analyzing qualitative responses.
