Biography

Biography

Pamela Johnson is a licensed clinical social worker supervisor who has experience in child welfare, pediatric social work, aging, mental health, and school social work. Pamela began her career in social work as a Youth and Family Specialist in the Arlington Police Department. She then worked with Transition Resource Action Center (TRAC) as a case manager assisting foster youth aging out of the system. Additionally, she served as an educator facilitating Preparation for Adult Living (PAL) classes for youth in foster care. Following her work with TRAC she provided services to medically fragile children and their families in a pediatric home health agency. She worked in the Arlington Independent School District for over 12 years as a teacher, volunteer, and mentor and was a school social worker in a Title One school for 7 years.
Pamela’s experience also includes various community stakeholder presentations and continuing education presentations. She secured a Healthy School Zone Program grant while working in the school system as well as received an award for being a Spotlight School leader. Pamela served on the Tarrant County Community Health Board for many years.
Pamela is a clinical social work associate professor and teaches social work direct practice courses. Additionally, she manages the Center for Clinical Social Work (CCSW) at UTA where she supervises interns. She is a 2015-2016 Faculty Fellow in Service Learning. In August of 2017, she implemented a clinical counseling program at Open Arms, a medical clinic in southwest Arlington, serving patients of all ages who are uninsured or under-insured. She supervises interns at both the CCSW and Open Arms as well. Her counseling expertise includes children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing the impacts of trauma. She is trained in EMDR. She also is a clinical supervisor and supervises professionals in the field working toward their clinical license.
Pamela has been recognized as a 2018 UTA Maverick of the month and was recognized for her teaching and implementation of Service Learning in her courses. She is a Spring 2019 UTA Leadership Academy Faculty Fellow and a 2019-2020 Faculty Fellow for the Maverick Advantage Program in the Center for Research on Teaching and Learning Excellence and a 2020-2021 Maverick Advantage Faculty Engagement Mentor. Pamela partners with C.O.P.S. - Concerns of Police Survivors. C.O.P.S. provides resources to help rebuild police officer's families shattered lives after their death. She provides counseling services for survivors at various retreats held yearly across the country.

      Emma Lee Whitmire, Emma Lee produced a thorough and completed project on being an advocate in the ER for rape survivors. After 40 hours of training, She spent 12 hours a week on call and would meet with the survivors in the ER. At the end of the semester she presented her experience to the class. She shared about the her experience, how it was related to social work and how the experience followed the social work process. The time, training and knowledge learned and then shared was impressive. (Social Work)
