Biography

Dr. Rashaan DeShay is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Focusing largely on qualitative methodology, she is currently conducting research exploring criminal decision-making. She is also working on a study that aims to gain better insight into the experiences of individuals while they are incarcerated, as well as how they adjust to life once they are released. She has previously published on issues related to wrongful convictions, intermittent offending patterns, inmate misconduct, active juvenile offenders, and the harm reduction techniques of female heroin users. Prior to joining the faculty at UTA, she spent two years as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at California State University, Stanislaus. Dr. DeShay holds a Ph.D. in Criminology from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a Juris Doctor degree from Louisiana State University.
