[Xu, Sen]
  • Assistant Professor, Department of Biology

I am an evolutionary biologist interested in using and developing cutting-edge genomic tools, population-genetic theory, and bioinformatic tools to understand fundamental biological questions. Current foci of my research include understanding the patterns of mutation and recombination in eukaryotic genomes, the genetic mechanisms for the origin of obligately asexual reproduction, and organismal responses to environmental stress in freshwater ecosystems.

Research and Expertise

  • Population genomics

Using population genomics tools to understand evolutionary genomic dynamics of freshwater zooplankton

  • Single-cell genomics

Using single cell genomics to understand eukaryotic mutation and recombination processes

  • Environmental genomics

Understanding how freshwater organisms (epi)genetically respond to environmental contaminants

      • BIOL 3315-002 GENETICS

In this course, we will focus on understanding how biological information is store, expressed, changed, and transmitted covering the fundamentals of the structure and function of DNA, RNA, and the genome.
