Biography

Biography

I come to UTA from Baylor College of Medicine’s (BCM) Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy in consortium with Weill Cornell Medicine where I completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Ethics. In that capacity, I served as a biomedical ethicist at Houston Methodist Hopsital as well as teaching a variety of learners about clinical ethics, research ethics, moral distress, and inclusive LGBTQ healthcare practice. I was also principal investigator on a BCM grant-funded research project identifying and addressing the triggers of moral distress for non-medical members of healthcare teams. Prior to my post-doctoral work at BCM, I earned a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in Social Work and Bioethics. My dissertation was a qualitative phenomenological study that explored gestational surrogacy for gay men in Canada. During my PhD, I also worked on grant-funded studies associated with HIV/STI online sexual health outreach among MSM, as well as research looking at the implications of cyber technology in face-to-face social work practice. I received my MSW from New York University with a specialization in both practice and policy. I hold an Honors B.A. in religion and bioethics from the University of Toronto.
